The Kenwood DMX8521S is the step down model from the DMX9021S. The reason you may want to step would likely be budget and also you don't need the higher resolution display. The rest of the specs we would say is pretty much identical. Twins Basil, twinssss...well almost. 

I still carry around DVD and CD's

This one is easy. If you are old school and feel bad that your DVD and CD investment is going to waste, then you should consider DDX models instead of DMX models.

• DDX - With DVD/CD playability
• DMX - Without DVD/CD playability.

If you opt for DMX models, it isn't the end of the world. Just convert your DVD/CD's into digital files and plug in a hard disk to the USB port.

If you want to play DVD/CD, the alternative to the DMX8521S is the DDX9019S which is somewhat a step up, although an older model, but with DVD/CD playability.

I don't need HD Display nor HiRes Audio

Well, this would then save you quite a few bucks as you can opt for the DMX7522S.
