A high-end powered subwoofer can get close to the sound quality of units that have a separate amplifier. A subwoofer with a built-in amplifier is handy for when you need to fit a lot of sound into a small boot.

This Alpine PWE-V80 is one of the easiest kits to go with. It isn't a hardcore bass set, but it gives you that extra bass for a full, surround-sound experience.
With an 8-inch (27-centimeter) speaker, this one manages to fit a lot of deep, reverberating sound in a small, thin packaged.
Designed to be an under-seat speaker, it fits into the smallest places and lets you deliver the sound right where you and your guests can truly feel the impact.

The Blaupunkt XLF uses a built-in 150-watt amplifier to make sure that your sounds get through with that added kick. Since it is only 150 watts, it doesn't need any special changes to your car's power supply.
If you want a subwoofer in a strong case
Kenwood is one of those brands that has been around for a long time. Most of us have owned one or more Kenwood products.
The KSC PSW8 is a strong challenger for the under-seat bass speaker. It is a mini subwoofer that brings a lot of sound to any car. At only 2-1/2 inches high (about 6.4 centimeters), it uses an extremely low profile to fit under some of the lowest seats.
At 150 Watts, it brings about as much power as the other models on the market.
The metal screen and hard plastic exterior help to protect it as it rides under your seat. Add a little velcro to the back of it, if you want it to sit solidly under your seat without sliding.
The remote is very similar to the other models out there with a gain knob, a variable low-pass crossover, and a gain selector switch. It lights up blue so that you can easily find it in the dark (a lot of folks mount these remotes in their glove box so that it is always easy to find).
The Pioneer TS-WX300A moves away from the under-seat models to offer a slightly large powered amplifier for the trunk. With a 12-inch speaker (30-centimeter), it offers a deeper sound and more of that true subwoofer feel.
With a Class D amplifier that delivers 350 watts of power and a 1300 watt peak power, this one offers incredible sound and that satisfying full-body feel of deep bass. The ported bass enclosure works well to allow the sound to breathe.
One of the best advantages of this speaker is how easy it is to install. You can easily tap into your car's existing power line, and then you only have to run your sound wires from your radio to the amplifier.
For the user who has some space in the boot of their car and who wants to get that better sound without sacrificing the entire area, this one is a solid choice that is going to have your friends complimenting on your sound quality.

The Pioneer TS WX210A is another under-seat subwoofer. Similar to the Kenwood above, it comes in a hard, plastic molded case that protects it from kicks as it rides underneath your seat.
The remote has all of the normal gain, filter, and phase switch options that we've seen on the other models.
As with the other models, there is an RCA adapter cable, so you can connect it right into RCA. If it doesn't come with RCA, you have the adapter to connect it to non-standard stereo configurations.
The nice thing about this setup is that it doesn't have only to be used under the seat and can be used anywhere in your car, where you need an added bass boost.
Since amps need such a massive and clean power supply, a lot of people will drill through their firewall to run the power cable directly to the battery or fusebox.
Having a cordless drill or impact driver will make it much easier to create a hole and run it through the car. If you don't have an impact driver, yet, ToolTally.com has some reviews on the different models.
Depending on your car, you might be able to connect to the fusebox with a fuse straddle to keep from having to drill through the power wall. Or, sometimes, you can use one of the existing lines.
The challenge with using an existing power line is that there are other devices using that line that will create noise interference. It is recommended to use a clean power source in order to get the best sound and to prevent shorting any fuses.
